Stewards are the community managers of WikiOasis. They are responsible for wiki creation & review, enforcing global policies, mediating severe disputes, and performing 'trust and safety' tasks on the platform such as addressing harassment or responding to incidents.
Scope and Access[edit | edit source]
Stewards assist wiki communities by addressing local issues such as disputes and disruptive behavior. They have the authority to assign permissions and utilize administrative tools (e.g., blocking, deleting, protecting) to maintain community order if intervention is necessary. They address cross-wiki disruptions, global group assignments, account locks, and renaming although they are not necessarily the go-to people for resolving software bugs or platform issues (see sysadmins).
Stewards serve as global CheckUsers and Suppressors across WikiOasis; these tools are delegated extremely sparingly by Steward consensus and only for larger, proven trustworthy projects. They are ex officio Meta administrators & bureaucrats and share the duties of 'Trust and Safety' that would be found on other projects.
These responsibilities may be delegated to teams as needed, such as countervandalism (CVT), meta administrators, or other groups as needed. Stewards may take specialties in what they handle, or they may be 'at large' and not have a particular focus. In a crisis any steward may assume any of these specialties, including team leadership.
Appointment[edit | edit source]
Stewards are appointed by majority approval of the Executive Team. They may be nominated the same way or the community may propose them, and the outcome of that vote or discussion will advise the Executive Team.
From community input, at least five supporters and over 75% of support to oppose will be expected. The candidate should bring a case why they believe they're fit to the role and what they bring to WikiOasis, and the candidate should address any outstanding concerns raised by the community. Note that the Executive Team may veto or simply not approve unsuitable candidates.
Revocation[edit | edit source]
Steward misconduct should first be reported to another trusted Steward and/or the Executive Team; if this is not possible or the steward is merely inactive and has not been addressed (or any other solid grounds), a request for removal can be made.
If the request for removal receives at least 50% support to oppose after a week's time and an action to address inactivity isn't taken outright, it will be considered as a vote of no confidence and the Executive Team should remove them accordingly.
