Die Ardapedia ist ein Projekt zur Erstellung einer Online-Enzyklopädie über den englischen Autor J. R. R. Tolkien und seine Werke. Der Name „Ardapedia“ setzt sich zusammen aus Arda (der Bezeichnung für die Erde in der von Tolkien entwickelten Sprache Quenya) und encyclopedia (englisch für „Enzyklopädie“).

Die Ardapedia verfolgt das Ziel, eine möglichst umfangreiche Sammlung von zuverlässigen Informationen und Erkenntnissen zu J. R. R. Tolkien, seinen Werken und allem, was damit zusammenhängt, zu erschaffen.

Die Ardapedia verwendet die Wiki-Technik als Werkzeug für die Zusammenarbeit zwischen Autoren. Wikis (von wikiwiki, dem hawaiischen Wort für „schnell“) sind Websites, die es jedem Internetnutzer erlauben, ohne Anmeldung mitzuarbeiten. Jeder kann darin neue Artikel schreiben oder bestehende verbessern.

Beim gemeinsamen Zusammentragen von Wissen soll hier Qualität groß geschrieben werden: Es zählt nicht nur „Masse“, sondern auch „Klasse“. Jeder kann dazu beitragen – ob durch Fachwissen oder Ausdrucksstärke – dass hier in Zusammenarbeit aller und im Austausch miteinander eine qualitativ hochwertige Tolkien-Enzyklopädie entsteht.

Alle Mitarbeiter der Ardapedia veröffentlichen ihre Texte unter der Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike-Lizenz. Diese Lizenz erlaubt es jedem, die Inhalte unentgeltlich zu nutzen, zu verändern und zu verbreiten.

Ardapedia is a project to create an online encyclopedia about the English author J. R. R. Tolkien and his works. The name “Ardapedia” is a combination of Arda (the name for Earth in the language Quenya developed by Tolkien) and encyclopedia.

Ardapedia aims to create the most comprehensive collection of reliable information and insights about J. R. R. Tolkien, his works, and everything related to them.

Ardapedia uses wiki technology as a tool for collaboration between authors. Wikis (from wikiwiki, the Hawaiian word for “fast”) are websites that allow any Internet user to contribute without registering. Anyone can write new articles or improve existing ones.

When compiling knowledge together, quality is of paramount importance here: it is not only “quantity” that counts, but also “quality.” Everyone can contribute—whether through expertise or expressiveness—to the creation of a high-quality Tolkien encyclopedia through collaboration and exchange.

All Ardapedia contributors publish their texts under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike license. This license allows anyone to use, modify, and distribute the content free of charge.
