Moving all Meta images to Commons

Status:  Not done

I would like to move all uploaded images here on Meta to Commons.

There are a lot of images that are not Meta specific, and most of them are better served to be on Commons.

The ones that are Meta specific, can be protected from editing if necessary.

PDF files can of course stay on Meta!

If it's okay, I would like to ask Tech via Phorge to make an Export/Import. File:Miraheze Logo.svg Kind regards,   Rodejong 👥talk🗄️edits📝mailauth👮rights … 10:59, 1 March 2025 (UTC)

Per discussion, there is not an appetite or consensus to do this, it would also require input from Meta admins. Marking as not done. --NotAracham (talkcontribsglobal) 19:27, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
Some images hosted on Meta are copyrighted. Xeverything11 (talk) 13:17, 27 March 2025 (UTC)
Commons Miraheze has licenses for that, such as Copyrighted, Non-Free-Fair use, etc. Our Commons is not as strict as Wikimedia Commons as they require files to be available for commercially use. We don't. File:Miraheze Logo.svg Kind regards,   Rodejong  💬talk☑️Account Info🔑rights🗄️contribs📑logs(✍️guestbook) ⁝ 📆⏱️ … 13:41, 27 March 2025 (UTC)

Housing.wiki

Status:  Done

Domain no longer points to Miraheze, leading to a Bodis parking lot instead, and should be demapped accordingly. (Originally requested under the mh:HousingWiki ID [which points to that custom URL]; subject of this early-2022 closure complaint by site founder Tmccormick1.) --Routhwick (talk) 16:36, 2 March 2025 (UTC)

Done by Agent. --NotAracham (talkcontribsglobal) 06:52, 6 March 2025 (UTC)

Kaptain kharisma wiki

Status:  Done

Hello, could you back up all images from the kaptain kharisma wiki?

JWMeeting

Status:  Redundant

I would like to add mh:jwmeeting: to the Dormancy_Policy/Exemptions. It's a database that very slowly grows in free time. File:Miraheze Logo.svg Kind regards,   Rodejong 👥talk🗄️edits📝mailauth👮rights … 22:35, 6 March 2025 (UTC)

@Rodejong, I believe the proper place for this is Steward requests/Restricted changes. Three Sixty (talk) 02:10, 7 March 2025 (UTC)
You're right. How could I make that mistake :) ??? File:Miraheze Logo.svg Kind regards,   Rodejong 👥talk🗄️edits📝mailauth👮rights … 02:22, 7 March 2025 (UTC)
I actually think this is the correct place for Dormancy Policy exemptions, even though there should probably be a separate one. Restricted changes is mostly meant for ManageWiki restricted changes. Reception123 (talk) (C) 10:38, 7 March 2025 (UTC)

Industrialist Wiki

Status:  Done

Hi, I'm Marty. I'm the head admin at the Official Industrialist Wiki on Fandom. We're seeking to move from Fandom to Miraheze, however, the Miraheze wiki is currently still online, although inactive. Its only Bureaucrat and admin has been inactive for a year. We have started two local elections on the main page discussion page. One to elect new Bureaucrats, one to remove the current inactive one.

We'd like for the link to the local election to be added to the main page so that it can be displayed prominently. It is protected so we can't do it ourselves. MartinHyde (talk) 16:04, 10 March 2025 (UTC)

@MartinHyde:  Done, noticed added. Feel free to reach out if any changes or other assistance is needed, and good luck.— ╚PixDeVl╝ (Talk Contributions CentralAuth) 03:40, 11 March 2025 (UTC)

All The Tropes

Status:  Resolved

We have an odd case of a user with no memberships in any privileged user groups demonstrating all manner of restricted privileges, including page deletion, which has been reserved for the ATT admins for the best part of a decade. He's not misusing them, fortunately, but he definitely shouldn't be able to use them at all. We've tried toggling his rights on and off again to see if his privileges went away, to no avail. Can someone please look into why this is happening? We're inquiring here before submitting a Phabricator ticket, in case it's an easier fix than it appears at first. The user is DarkMatterMan4500. Thank you. --Looney Toons (talk) 18:09, 17 March 2025 (UTC)

Hello @Looney Toons, to answer your immediate question, @DarkMatterMan4500 is part of our global patroller group which is tasked with counter-vandalism activities globally on the Miraheze platform. This is why they were able to take actions beyond what local rights would normally permit.
These rights generally should only be used on request from the local community or on untended wikis without active administration specifically for counter-vandalism. We'll review internally to confirm appropriateness of usage and if follow-up action is needed on our part.
Thanks for the report!
--NotAracham (talkcontribsglobal) 19:36, 17 March 2025 (UTC)
@Looney Toons: Hi, I apologize for not bringing that up much sooner. Yes, NotAracham is correct. Seeing as I have the Global Patrollers hat, I am able to delete pages, even if I'm not an admin, let alone a member. From now on, I'll leave the deletion on the All The Tropes wiki to you guys, and not meddle. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 16:50, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
Thanks, @DarkMatterMan4500:. In the future, then, just add the {{delete}} template to any page or file that you feel needs it. We'll take it from there! In the meantime, I'll be giving you a (purely symbolic) belated grandfathering into the proper user groups, which will do absolutely nothing as far as your rights are concerned but will at least look right enough to keep anyone from panicking in the future. <grin> --Looney Toons (talk) 18:01, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
In expansion of NA's reply (piggybacking on DMM's ping which came just before this message),
DarkMatterMan4500 has been messaged. Page deletion and other commonly restricted rights should not be used casually as a matter of practice. This hasn't been drilled in very hard so I've pieced together this reference and referred it for volunteer review. There are rights that are more blurry and some wikis may or may not restrict them more than average which might not be easy to know without investigating each wiki visited, and their 'abuse' would be accidental. In these cases it's best to specify when it comes up what not to use, and a global functionary should respect it.
There used to be an opt out system so say, GP/GA could not use elevated rights at all through global access, but it was heavy handed and would prohibit certain groups from acting in any case which also isn't ideal. So responsible use is the key in most of this. For you and for any other wiki this is a reasonable thing to call out.
Moderation is more difficult. I passed this through to tech and apparently there is a behavior where people with rollback also skip moderation. This was found by {{user|RhinosF1}] reviewing the code and doesn't seem to be documented. This was a choice on the part of the Moderation developer(s) and since rollback is a crucial part of CVT this is not something we can casually remove. Even if we could, this would come up if a Global Administrator or Steward decided to edit, which doesn't necessarily mean they will produce content that should skip ATT's vetting. It is reasonable that moderation would be used as quality/content control beyond the assumed anti-spam use it serves on most wikis (which is why has not come up so far). The options I see are to work with DMM given this limitation, or for DMM to create a split, unpriveleged editing account which would be used at AllTheTropes. Neither of these are ideal but that seems to be where we're stuck unfortunately. If there's another path I'm all ears.
Take care, --raidarr (💬) 17:09, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
Thank you, everyone. Honestly, we weren't too worried specifically about DarkMatterMan, as he's been a contributor to ATT since before we implemented Moderation and honestly should have been grandfathered in years ago (which I will go forth and do properly now that we know what's what). We were just afraid that there was some bug somewhere that had accidentally let him bypass all our various user groups' access levels. Glad to see that there isn't. --Looney Toons (talk) 17:52, 19 March 2025 (UTC)

Change wording of scope

Status:  Done

I would like to ask to change the wording on the scope of my wiki (https://noogalverse.miraheze.org/wiki/Main_Page), to replace the word "Starbound" with "fictional" from the first sentence and remove the word "roleplay" from the second sentence. Thanks! --AuroraCipPer (talk) 10:10, 23 March 2025 (UTC)

Account merging

Status:  Not done

Hi there! I created an account on https://otherkin.wiki with the username "It's moon" and I also created an account on https://deadmau5.miraheze.org but instead with the username "Wmyttmlimvty". I can access both accounts. I would like both accounts to be merged under one Miraheze Global Account with the username "It's moon" if that's possible. Thanks and sorry for the possible trouble. I wasn't aware Miraheze had a global acc system set in place. I'll also reply here with my other account to verify I own both accounts. Wmyttmlimvty (talk) 05:01, 25 March 2025 (UTC)

Here the reply It's moon (talk) 05:02, 25 March 2025 (UTC)
Account merges are not something in steward remit (and may not be possible), but it might be possible to attribute all edits from the second account to the first. Please file a Phorge ticket for technology team assistance. --NotAracham (talkcontribsglobal) 16:51, 26 March 2025 (UTC)

使いたい拡張機能がない

Status:  Partially done

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Amaki Sougetu (talkcontribs) 26 March 2025 Please use ~~~~ behind your comment.

I would like to enable "ParserFunctions" and "Hovercards" on this wiki that I manage, but they don't appear in "Special:ManageWiki/extensions". Could you please enable them?

Also, I'm not very knowledgeable about this, so I'm editing as I research, so I apologize if there are any mistakes.

Additionally, I would also like to use "Replace Text", is this possible?

To answer each request item:
  • ParserFunctions - Enabled by default, no action needed
  • Hovercards - you're looking for the Previews extension, which also requires pageimages and textextracts
  • ReplaceText - Enabled!

There is no extension called Hovercard that we offer, Previews (also known as popups) is the equivalent. I have enabled all the prerequisites and the previews extension, they should activate in the next few hours. --NotAracham (talkcontribsglobal) 21:11, 26 March 2025 (UTC)

Aduqiks.miraheze.org Scope Adjustment

Status:  Done

When the wiki for Aduqiks was requested, the lore had not been fully set up. The scope for the wiki now no longer aligns with the lore. The new scope would be "The purpose of this wiki would be to serve as an encyclopedia of information on a fictional nation world-building project & simulated/user-run collection of fictional countries and governments on a planet called Aduqiks. The wiki would contain information about countries, geography, settlements, laws & treaties, history, election results, political parties, and businesses. The wiki will not allow pages on specific users, but will allow pages on fictional characters." Original request: https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:RequestWikiQueue/56767 Thank you Fajrero (talk) 22:04, 3 April 2025 (UTC)

Approved, thanks. --NotAracham (talkcontribsglobal) 17:02, 5 April 2025 (UTC)

Usurpation of Frisk

Status:  Done

Hello, I'd like to request usurpation of Frisk. The account has been made 5 years ago, it has made no edits of its own since then. The reason for the request is that I've been part of wiki communities since 2013 and under "Frisk" nickname since 2018. I hold the same nickname on Fandom (were member of SOAP anti-vandalism team until this March), minecraft.wiki (where I'm a equivalent of Miraheze's CVT team), as well as I try to keep this nickname across the web like with my personal website. On Miraheze I'm mainly contributing to Super Animal Royale wiki which forked from Fandom/Gamepedia where I also had "Frisk" nickname.

I did my due diligence in trying to contact user holding the nickname via talk, however I've received no answer for a month (or at least 4 weeks). FriskyGoat (talk) 10:04, 4 April 2025 (UTC)

Make changes to Login Wiki

Status:  Resolved

I would like stewards to make the following changes to Login Wiki:

  1. Remove protection on Template and Module namespaces (as many templates in that wiki need updating to support dark mode)

Thanks Xeverything11 (talk) 15:22, 7 April 2025 (UTC)

Not sure how long we'll be using login wiki to feature user pages, with which templates and modules won't be needed there anymore.File:Miraheze Logo.svg Kind regards,   Rodejong  💬talk☑️Account Info🔑rights🗄️contribs📑logs(✍️guestbook) ⁝ 📆⏱️ … 15:25, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
Login wiki remains supported, there is no timeline for it to be deprecated. With that in mind, modules and templates are protected as an anti vandalism measure. Instead, I have  granted confirmed for the requested purpose. --raidarr (💬) 17:02, 10 April 2025 (UTC)

Pine Chronicles visibility change

Status:  Locally handled

Request: I would like to temporarily make my wiki public so I can get feedback and assistance from an external reader. Please change the wiki at mh:pineinfo from private to public. I will change it back later as needed. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiBuilder (talkcontribs)

You can change the wiki from private to public and back again by ticking/unticking the "Private" box at the "Manage this wiki's core settings" link.

Antverse Wiki rollback

Status:  Locally handled

Can you rollback the status of antverse.miraheze.org to the way it was at 12:00gmt April 13. I messed up and now no images are loading in the infoboxes. If you need help with permissions contact me on Discord, I'm in the miraheze server under the same name - User:The Snail Philosopher

This isn't a steward matter - the issue is that you removed the image tag from your infobox template. Check https://antverse.miraheze.org/wiki/Template:Character?action=history and roll back to the version before today's edits to resolve this. --NotAracham (talkcontribsglobal) 05:05, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
The problem is its not just Template:Character, it's all templates. Plus, I've already undone all of today's edits. - User:The Snail Philosopher
Platform backups are not this granular I believe, ie, to allow per-wiki reset to roll back states in time especially same-day. So even as a Phorge matter as the only place this sort of request would hold (stewards lack any tools of this sort), I'm not sure you could do much except continue reverting changes, let the cache clear out, and report any lingering issue to be corrected as such, again probably best via Phorge. You might need to purge some pages for things to update correctly. --raidarr (💬) 09:31, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
The line in Template:Character was removed while I was troubleshooting, and has been put back. It's not the problem. That template is now the same as it was a month ago. I've rolled everything back from today, and it's still not working. How can we fix this? - User:The Snail Philosopher
