The wiki aims to enable people to contribute to a collection of insights and perspectives on Eastern Germany and long-term democracy in the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG), functioning in the spirit of a think tank.
Background:
The German reunification took place 35 years ago (3rd of october 1990), dissolving the former German Democratic Republic (GDR), a socialist dictatorship, and integrating its territories into the FRG, which had existed since the end of World War II. Significant differences between Western and Eastern Germany persist to this day, particularly in economic strength but even more so in people’s perspectives on the world and the now unified Germany. Many developments in the East are perceived as "imposed" by the West, and in several aspects this probably figures. As a result of eastern Germans feeling stigmatized and socially marginalized, especially in the predominantly rural areas, a right-wing populist party managed to become the strongest political force in several of the new federal states, i.e., the former GDR, despite being classified as extremist far-right by constitutional judges.
Under the title "Heimat und Zukunft im Osten" ("Homeland and Future in Eastern Germany"), the wiki seeks to compile new insights into how the widespread frustration and bitterness in the East arose, how people can develop a stronger identification with democracy, and how the rural east can become attractive to outsiders again. Possible ideas could include an educational campaign or even a concept for a new political party.
The community values are democracy, transparency, reason, and humanity. Hate speech, fascist ideologies, or any other forms of inhumane or anti-democratic thinking are strictly excluded.

Request approved. This is a good request. While the description could be a bit more detailed, the purpose is clear enough for approval. Please ensure your wiki always adheres to our Content Policy.
