Interested users can nominate themselves or be nominated by others on Meta:Requests for permissions.

A successful request must meet these criteria:

Once the criteria are met, the request may be closed by a steward or appropriate official.

Administrator rights may be revoked under these conditions:

A revocation request gathers at least 5 supporting votes
The support ratio is 51% or higher
The request remains open for 7 days
The administrator has not used admin tools (such as deletions, protections, or blocks) or made any administrative edits in 3 months.

Inactive admins may be reviewed periodically to ensure the rights are actively maintained.
