Appeal to ban at Discord
Greetings everyone I, TheAstorPastor, am writing this to appeal the ban that was recently imposed on me at the official Discord server by Zippybonzo. The ban was issued after I shared screenshots of a random conversation in the official Discord server, which I had no connection to.
Initially, I was banned without a clear explanation, and when I enquired about the reason, I was presented with two screenshots (which I have emailed to [email protected]; if allowed by the stewards, I would post them here too). Upon reviewing them, I clarified that it wasn’t me involved in the conversation but rather someone impersonating me using my profile picture and name. Despite my explanation, Zippybonzo remained unconvinced and stated that the screenshots came from a "trusted source."
I want to emphasize that I have maintained a good standing in various communities, including TestWiki. I acknowledge that I was previously banned from Wikipedia for sockpuppetry, a very serious mistake on my part. However, I also believe that my contributions there were valuable, and I plan to appeal to the Wikipedia community in November to rectify that situation.
I kindly request that you reconsider my ban from the Discord server of Wikioasis. I value being part of this community and would appreciate the opportunity to clarify any misunderstandings regarding this incident. Thank you for your time and consideration. Discussion
There are several deep problems here and I am disappointed with all involved.
- Bans should not be issued without explanation. Seriously. Nor should they take place without team awareness. Globe for example should have been involved and on board with the decision. If it was a random vandal, okay, slap and move on. TAP is a little more around than that. It's high profile by the low standard of this new farm.
- Why is a discord ban a vote on the meta community portal. Whyyyy...
- Why is Trust and Safety's instinct to respond with AGF. This should be examined internally by relevant staffers with the full evidence and responded to accordingly. It is not a matter that should be voted on.
- Why are there three support votes for an unban when nobody has seen the evidence. You trust Zippy to run this place, surely his decisions have weight, and it should be assumed that the decision was made responsibly. Such decisions should be overturned if there is a clear, complete case to say so. There is no such case presented here.
- Zippy made the choice as banning moderator, why doesn't he share the evidence himself? Present the counter case?
- Hang on, why was the ban issued anyway? What is the discussion even about?
When I was rambling off on discord about how a farm is measured by its response to crisis blah blah, this is precisely the sort of thing I meant, and it is not reassuring so far. Let the discussion be refactored accordingly. Or not.
