Trust and Safety groups deprecated

Because of lack of need at this time, WikiOasis Trust and Safety as a team has merged into Stewards. This means I am the 'Trust and Safety Representative', of sorts, but ultimately a Steward by role. Globe is now just Steward.

To refresh on how the farm is run, it is governed by an Executive Team that includes stewards and sysadmins, who respectively handle community and technology affairs on the farm (though membership can and does overlap). There are other possibilities, for example we have some advisors and are willing to work with people who have decent ideas how to push the farm forward (we could always use some energy), and if you have a wiki project you'd like to host we're open to discussing that as well.

Growth Tools

Heya all, I've enabled the GrowthExperiments extension and set it up here, to allow for new users to connect with a mentor and ask questions they may have to them, along with suggesting tasks such as adding links between mainspace pages and and copyediting. I don't think GrowthExperiments will necessarily be here for a long time, but I'd like to see if it helps with retention and encouraging volunteering here. Please help me with importing wiki pages

Good afternoon. I need to upload a wiki from Fandom to my wiki. I downloaded the dump (weighing more than 30 MB), and as a result, I get the error "Import failed:

Session data is lost. You may have completed your work session. Please make sure that you are still logged in and try again. If this still doesn't help, try logging out and logging in again, and make sure that your browser allows you to accept cookies from this site. The interviewee prefix is not specified." Gadget issues on skyHow

WikiOasis is committed to both having up-to-date software and ensuring our wikis run smoothly and efficiently. We will likely upgrade once the new version is shown to be stable and ready, so an exact date is hard to say, especially when its release date hasn’t even been announced. Hiya, Tech person here. We generally don't immediately upgrade due to stability reasons - last time when 1.43 came out we waited about a month. This is primarily due to the fact we have to wait for core dependencies to update.

Regardless, we're not going to push out an update that hasn't even been released yet, and we generally don't confirm updates until on the day.

Citoid and import issues

I saw previous discussions about Citoid and I saw it argued that citoid wastes server resources. However, wikimedia has its own free API we can use instead of hosting our own zotero server. Additionally, I have been having issues importing templates from wikipedia. Thank you @Waki285 for the import. I have manually imported some other important things that were left out, but could not get citoid to work and show up when I come to cite a source. Could you help me out on that?

Regarding the limit, the page I am trying to create has upwards of 33k characters (last edit I meant characters too, not digits). I used a word-to-wikitext converter. Question regarding wiki requests

Is there a limit as to how many wikis users are allowed to request in a short period of time? I can't edit a page my own wiki, why is that?

I just made my account yesterday and requested a wiki, but I can't seem to edit on it. I've tried clicking every other button I can find, and a notable find is that I'm not allowed to execute the action I've requested. Problems with Count Duckula Wiki

I can't seem to do anything other than viewing on Count Duckula Wiki. I am logged in and have the permissions to change the wiki's settings, yet the Administration links aren't showing up. These issues could be why I can't access Special:Import nor Special:RequestImport. Trouble enabling Portable Infobox

In ManageWiki, I turned on Portable Infobox. Navigating to Special:ManageWiki shows the checkbox next to PIB is checked on. Special: Log on my wiki also shows that I enabled portableinfobox. However, Special:Version says that Portable Infobox is not enabled, and the PIB syntax does not actually work.

Regarding MediaWiki version

I noticed that WikiOasis haven’t been updating MediaWiki since mid-2025. The current version of MediaWiki that WikiOasis runs is 1.43.3, but there are a couple of security updates taking it to 1.43.6, and MediaWiki 1.45 was released.

Could WikiOasis update MediaWiki to 1.45 (or 1.43.6) depending on timing?

Inquiry regarding the merger of SkyWiki and WikiOasis

Hello, I am the creator and administrator of superscience.skywiki.org and antimony.wikioasis.org. I have a few questions regarding the upcoming merger between SkyWiki and WikiOasis:

superscience.skywiki.org and antimony.wikioasis.org share the same theme and have nearly identical content, as they were created around the same time. However, since their inception, my users and I have been active exclusively on superscience.skywiki.org. antimony.wikioasis.org has remained inactive and has been used solely for backup and testing purposes.

I would like to clarify how the merger between SkyWiki and WikiOasis will be implemented:

1. Will skywiki.org retain its independent domain?
2. Or will all skywiki.org sites be redirected to wikioasis.org?

If the plan involves redirection, will it be possible to keep both sites? If not, please decommission antimony.wikioasis.org and redirect it to superscience.skywiki.org (which, I assume, would become superscience.wikioasis.org after the merger is complete).

Greetings! I'm a long-time supporter of MediaWiki with strong knowledge of the software in many aspects. I was previously self-managing a wiki hosted on a free virtual cloud server. Unfortunately, a few days ago the wiki completely crashed shortly after upgrading to 1.45 and appears to be largely unrecoverable (I do have a partial backup of the content pages, but all of the configuration has been lost). While I could theoretically start over on the same virtual server, the platform had several restrictions that limited the functionality of the service which could only be overcome by upgrading to a paid service, which I would rather not do. So I'm looking for a new host. Coincidentally, I noticed that SkyWiki appeared to be experiencing a major turnover and was likely looking for new volunteers. I assume that need will continue post-merger especially since one platform will now be hosting essentially double the content.

I already have fairly strong knowledge of PHP and the MediaWiki code, and I am also currently in school to become a network support technician/IT specialist, and have some experience in this area already. So I was wondering perhaps I'd be welcomed onto the sysadmin/steward/staff team in some capacity? I don't currently have the means to be financially responsible for any infrastructure, but if another entity handles the financial aspects I am more than willing to help with the maintenance and upkeep, and also participate in community oversight roles as well. I would also be looking to restart my personal wiki here - the reason I haven't done so yet is because under my previous host I did have full unrestricted access to the entire MW interface, including full user rights access. I didn't have shell access but the host partnered with cPanel and Softaculous to provide a web-based interface for editing LocalSettings.php, installing extensions, etc. It appears that by default, most wiki farms restrict some of the technologically advanced or privacy-sensitive features only to staff members. Thus I would only want to host here if I was also a team member in some form, in order to maintain the same level of access to my own personal site as I previously had, and to avoid essentially having a downgrade in experience. Of course I would be more than willing to properly balance global roles/responsibilities with my personal site. Please let me know if you'd be willing to consider this. Please also note that I will need to decide what to do with my existing virtual cloud server sooner rather than later, as it is technically a violation of the host's ToS to be holding onto an "empty" server that you're not actively doing anything with (seldom enforced, but still).

Issue with Namespace 3000 and Search Indexing after Migration

My site superscience.wikioasis.org was recently migrated from superscience.skywiki.org, but I am encountering two major technical issues:

Namespace Issue: All pages in the custom "超理文献" namespace (ID: 3000) are inaccessible. When trying to open them, it shows "page does not exist." However, they still seem to exist in the database, as I can see their titles listed in Special:LongPages. Search Functionality Issue: The search bar provides correct suggestions while typing, but upon pressing enter to go to Special:Search, only a very small number of pages are displayed. Most pages, including those that appeared in the search suggestions, cannot be found in the search results.

Cite templates

I would like to make citations in my wiki, luthsci. It appears that the only cite template available is "Basic". I'd like to cite books, journals, websites, news, conferences, etc.

I also see above that another user imported templates from wikipedia and used their citoid service.

About Minecraft screenshots

About 1 year ago, I uploaded a Minecraft screenshot to my wiki, Hypixel Wiki. However, the Minecraft EULA generally prohibits commercial use. Since WikiOasis is funded by donations, I was concerned that this might violate Minecraft's terms of service, so I asked this question. Is it okay to keep the image? Why I can't see logo of my wiki when I use vector skin?

Hi, I'm Meltup. I noticed while browsing my wiki, 著作権切れ歌詞Wiki, that the logo doesn't display when using a vector skin. The logo displays fine when viewed with the wiki's default skin, Citizen, but it doesn't appear with the vector skin. I haven't tried other skins, but why is this happening? Appointment for global roles

Global Infrastructure Issues: Stale CSS Cache & Phorge Auth Failure

I am reporting two linked technical issues that appear to be caused by server-side cache/session desynchronization:

• CSS Cache Issue (superscience.wikioasis.org): Updates to MediaWiki:Common.css are not propagating. The production site is stuck on an old version of the stylesheet.
  • Evidence: Adding ?debug=true to the URL loads the correct, updated CSS. This confirms the issue is with the ResourceLoader/CDN cache, not the source code.

• Login Failure (phorge.wikioasis.org): Unable to log in to Phorge. The OAuth redirect fails with the following exception:

Unhandled Exception ("Exception"): The authentication provider did not return a client state parameter in its response, but one was expected.

• • Note: This persists in Incognito mode and after clearing all wikioasis.org cookies. It appears the "state" parameter is being lost during the handshake between the auth provider and Phorge.

Request: Please force a purge of the ResourceLoader cache for the affected wiki and investigate the OAuth state synchronization issue. PandaFiredoge (talk) 14:30, 18 April 2026 (UTC)

Further Update: To avoid disrupting other users, I have reverted MediaWiki:Common.css to its current state. However, the caching issue remains evident:

• Accessing with ?debug=true reflects an outdated version of the CSS (rounded corners/white-on-hover), which does not match the current saved code.
• Normal access reflects an even older version (pre-interactivity).

This confirms that the ResourceLoader's internal object cache is stale and failed to sync even after multiple edits to the source page. Both the server-side cache and global CDN appear to be out of sync with the database. PandaFiredoge (talk) 14:48, 18 April 2026 (UTC)

I randomly get logged out once I enter my wiki
