I disagree about informality: if we want people to take this seriously, we should be serious and formal. I left it as informal, but readded the category that was removed

The Content Policy outlines the type of content WikiOasis is not willing to host. These guidelines are clear and concise, so you shouldn't have any trouble following them.

  1. Follow United States law. WikiOasis is based in the United States, so this one should be self-explanatory.
  2. Don't cause problems for WikiOasis. Content that results in severe negative consequences for WikiOasis, such as denial of service attacks or search engine blacklisting, is not allowed.
  3. No hate speech. Content that incites harm against or otherwise attacks individuals or groups, including attacks on characteristics such as race, ethnicity, religion, gender, or sexual orientation, is not allowed.
  4. No gratuitous NSFW. Not-safe-for-work content may only be used in educational or artistic contexts consistent with the wiki's topic.
  5. Don't use wikis as a tool for commercial promotion. Commercial promotion includes promoting a business, selling products, or manipulating search engine rankings.
  6. Don't use wikis as file hosting services. Files that are not relevant to a wiki's topic should be kept at a minimum.
  7. No anarchy wikis. Wikis must have a clear scope and rules, as well as admins to enforce the rules. If there are no active admins for a wiki you contribute to, you can request to be promoted to an admin at Steward requests.
  8. Don't duplicate other WikiOasis wikis. If there's already a wiki on WikiOasis about a subject you're interested in, contribute to that wiki instead of creating a new one.
  9. Scope changes must still follow the Content Policy. Changing your wiki's scope to one prohibited by this policy may result in it being closed.

If a page or handful of pages violate this policy, they'll be removed and warnings may be issued. If a large part or all of the wiki violates this policy, WikiOasis staff will work with local administrators to try to resolve the violations; if that's not possible, the wiki will be closed.
